OpenSeaMap is a global open-source initiative aimed at creating free nautical charts. Established in 2009, the project has recently garnered significant attention for its expansion of nautical information available at no cost. The platform not only includes navigational aids such as lights and various maritime data but also incorporates additional layers of information, including weather updates and details about harbors. Serving as an enhancement to OpenStreetMap, OpenSeaMap addresses the information gaps pertinent to maritime activities, leveraging the same database as its parent project.
